Outdoor spigot leaking or cracked over the winter? We replace it.

Free in-home estimate · Flat price before we start · Usually fixed in one visit

A hose left on in October becomes a split pipe in the wall by April. We replace the spigot with a frost-free one, installed the way Minnesota needs it.

What you're seeing

Sound familiar?

  • Water spraying from the handle or the wall when you turn it on in spring
  • A steady drip from the spout with the handle off
  • Water inside the basement or crawlspace behind where the spigot enters
  • A handle that spins, or a spigot that's rusted to the siding

What's actually going on

Most outdoor spigots in the metro are frost-free sillcocks: the actual valve sits a foot inside the warm wall, so the outside stub can't freeze. That protection fails the moment a hose stays attached in fall — the trapped water can't drain, it freezes, and the pipe splits inside the wall where you can't see it. You find out the first time you turn it on in spring. Older non-frost-free spigots simply fail from age and freeze cycles.

The visit

What we do — and it's usually one trip

We come out, look at the actual problem, and give you a flat-rate price on the spot. If you approve, we fix it right then — the truck carries the parts this job needs.

  1. Confirm where the spigot is leaking — the packing, the spout, or a split behind the wall — and check for water damage inside

  2. Replace it with a frost-free sillcock of the right length so the valve sits well inside the heated space

  3. Install a vacuum breaker (required by code) so hose water can't siphon back into your drinking water

  4. Pitch it to drain, test it under pressure, and show you the fall shutdown routine that prevents the next one

When it's more than a small repair

If the split is far back in the wall or the original was installed with no access, we may need to open a small section of drywall or siding to do it right. We'll show you exactly where and price it in writing first — and patching is part of the conversation, not a surprise after.

If something's not right after we leave, we come back and make it right — no charge, no argument. That's the Loon Promise.

Good to know

Outdoor spigot questions, answered straight

Do I need to shut off the outside water every fall?

With a frost-free sillcock installed correctly, you only need to disconnect the hose — that's the whole secret. If your home has an older spigot with a separate inside shutoff, yes: close the inside valve, open the outside one to drain it, and leave it open for the winter.

Can you add a spigot on the other side of the house?

Usually, yes. A second hose bib is a small job when there's a water line nearby inside the wall. We'll look at the route and give you a flat price on the spot.

It only leaks when the hose is connected. Is that still a problem?

That's usually the vacuum breaker or the spout washer, both simple fixes. But it's worth having looked at — a leak at the wall can mean the split is already there and only shows under pressure.
