Local knowledge

We're local to Minneapolis — actually local

Not a national franchise, not a call center. We're a family plumbing company, and Minneapolis is a city we work constantly — the 1920s bungalows of Nokomis and Longfellow, the pre-war stock in Northeast and North, the 1950s ramblers out toward the edges, and the condos and rebuilt homes in between.

We know what a hundred-year-old house hides: galvanized supply lines closing up with rust, original clay sewer laterals under boulevard elms, cast-iron stacks, and the lead service line question that comes with any home built before mid-century. And we know the city's water — softened, chloraminated river water that behaves differently from the well water in the suburbs.

Know your city

What Minneapolis throws at its plumbing

River water, softened, with chloramine

Minneapolis draws from the Mississippi and treats it at its own plants in Fridley and Columbia Heights — lime-softened to roughly 5 to 6 grains per gallon, moderately hard rather than the 20-plus you'd find in most suburbs. Most homes here genuinely don't need a softener, and we'll say so. What the city does use is chloramine for disinfection, which a standard carbon filter barely touches; the swimming-pool taste some residents notice needs catalytic carbon. The city's 2024 monitoring also found trace PFAS, all below federal limits.

The lead question every pre-1950 house should ask

The water leaving the plant is fine. The pipe it travels through to reach your house may not be: Minneapolis has one of the largest legacy inventories of lead service lines in the state — tens of thousands of properties, concentrated in the pre-1950 neighborhoods that make up most of the city. The city runs a replacement program, and inside the house, pre-1986 copper joints carry lead solder. None of that shows on a test strip; lead needs a certified lab, and we'll point you to the right one. What we do fix: the galvanized supply lines that choke water pressure and the original shutoffs that no longer shut.

Clay laterals, boulevard trees, and old basements

Most Minneapolis sewer laterals are original clay tile, jointed every few feet, running under boulevard trees that have been hunting for water for eighty years. Roots at the joints are the number-one reason a Minneapolis basement drain backs up — and the reason a camera inspection before buying a house here is worth every dollar. Add old basements with drain tile that was never designed for a modern finished lower level, and a sump pump that's actually sized for the lot matters more than most owners realize.

Good to know

Minneapolis questions, answered straight

Do you offer same-day service in Minneapolis?

Yes — same-day service is the standard in Minneapolis, not the exception. Call and we'll give you an honest arrival window, not a four-hour guess that becomes eight.

Are you licensed to work in Minneapolis?

Yes. We hold Minnesota Master Plumber license ${{SITE.license}}, we're insured, and when a job needs a permit we pull it through the City of Minneapolis and meet the inspector ourselves. Permit costs are part of the flat-rate price you approve up front.

My Minneapolis house was built in 1925. Does it have a lead service line?

It might. The city's inventory is public — you can look up your address on the City of Minneapolis lead service line map — and the city runs a replacement program. Inside the house, pre-1986 copper joints have lead solder regardless. A certified lab test is the only way to know what's at your tap; we'll point you to one rather than pretend a strip can tell you.

How fast can you respond to a plumbing emergency in Minneapolis?

Call us and we'll give you an honest arrival time. For a burst pipe, shut off the main water valve first (usually in the basement near the meter), then call. We offer same-day and emergency service.

Do I need a water softener in Minneapolis?

Usually not. The city softens the river water to around 5 to 6 grains, which is moderate. If you're seeing heavy scale or spotting, something else is going on — often an aging water heater — and the free in-home test sorts it out in twenty minutes.

What's the Truth in Sale of Housing evaluation, and does it cover plumbing?

Minneapolis requires a point-of-sale evaluation on most homes. It checks safety items, including some plumbing, but it does not scope the sewer lateral — the most expensive pipe you'll own. If you're buying a pre-1970 house here, get a separate camera inspection during your contingency period.

Do you charge extra to come to Minneapolis?

No. No travel surcharge, no service-call games — Minneapolis is squarely inside our service area. You get a free estimate and a flat-rate price before any work starts, same as every city we serve.
