Local knowledge

We're local to Hugo — actually local

We're a family plumbing company, and Hugo is a city we work regularly — the 2000s and 2010s subdivisions around Oneka Lake and along Highway 61, the older homes near downtown and Bald Eagle Lake, and the horse properties and acreage across the rural half of the city on private wells.

Hugo's newer homes are reaching the age where builder-grade water heaters, softeners, and fixtures all fail together, and its rural homes run on wells nobody tests but the owner. We handle both sides — city-water softening and filtration, and the well pumps, pressure tanks, and treatment that acreage living requires.

Know your city

What Hugo throws at its plumbing

Very hard water the city sequesters but doesn't soften

Hugo's five municipal wells deliver water at about 15 grains per gallon — very hard. The city adds a sequestering agent to keep iron and manganese from staining, which works up to a point, and does not soften, so scale is up to each home. Softeners are near-universal here for good reason: the difference in water heater life is measured in years. Trace PFAS and low radium show up in monitoring, both far below limits. The service line inventory is clean — no known lead.

A young city hitting its first repair cycle

Most of Hugo was built after 2000, and a house from 2005 is now old enough for the original water heater, the builder-grade softener, the first-generation PEX fittings, and the plastic shutoff valves to start failing — often within the same couple of years. That's not a defect; it's a schedule. The homes near downtown and around Bald Eagle Lake are older and have the opposite story: galvanized lines, cottage-era additions, and drains sized for a smaller household.

Wells, wetlands, and a sump that earns its keep

Roughly half of Hugo's land is rural residential on private wells — hard, iron-heavy water from the same aquifers, untested unless you test it. The Minnesota Department of Health's list is bacteria every year, nitrate every other year, arsenic and manganese at least once. The wetlands and lakes that make the city attractive also keep the water table high; sump pumps in the newer subdivisions around Oneka Lake run hard every spring, and battery backup is the honest call for a finished basement.

Good to know

Hugo questions, answered straight

Do you offer same-day service in Hugo?

Yes — same-day service is the standard in Hugo, not the exception. Call and we'll give you an honest arrival window, not a four-hour guess that becomes eight.

Are you licensed to work in Hugo?

Yes. We hold Minnesota Master Plumber license ${{SITE.license}}, we're insured, and when a job needs a permit we pull it through the City of Hugo and meet the inspector ourselves. Permit costs are part of the flat-rate price you approve up front.

Our Hugo house is from 2006 and everything seems to be breaking at once. Is that normal?

Completely. Builder-grade water heaters, softeners, fittings, and valves have similar lifespans, so a 2006 house hits them together around now. One visit gives you a straight list of what's worth doing this year and what can honestly wait.

How fast can you respond to a plumbing emergency in Hugo?

Call us and we'll give you an honest arrival time. For a burst pipe, shut off the main water valve first (usually in the basement near the meter), then call. We offer same-day and emergency service.

We're on a well in Hugo. Do you do well work?

Yes — well pumps, pressure tanks, and treatment for the hard, iron-heavy water out here. We test at your tap first and size any equipment to real numbers, not a guess.

Do I need a softener on Hugo city water?

At about 15 grains, yes, if you want fixtures, appliances, and the water heater to live their full lives. The city sequesters iron but doesn't soften. We size to your bathrooms and your actual test number.

Do you charge extra to come to Hugo?

No. No travel surcharge, no service-call games — Hugo is squarely inside our service area. You get a free estimate and a flat-rate price before any work starts, same as every city we serve.
